Loved by hundreds and thousands of people the world over, Hansel & Gretel is one of the most popular operas ever written. Opera Queensland and shake & stir theatre co present this Humperdinck classic, reimagined especially for primary students in the 21st century. Hansel and Gretel are on a journey into the forest. They’re searching for food for the family table but what they discover is far more appealing… do they dare taste the sweet façade of the gingerbread house?
Hansel & Gretel will transport children and adults alike to a contemporary world of magic, fairies and sweets with its enchanting story of survival and family bonds.
This school holiday workshop presented in partnership with West Village will take the audience on a journey deep into the forest which is full of surprises and learning opportunities.
The audience will watch a video stream of the Opera featuring three of Opera Queensland’s most energetic young performers. The video will be stopped and started and in between watching the short film Hansel (Jessica Low- Mezzo Soprano) and Gretel (Irena Lysiuk – Soprano) will visit West Village to teach some of the songs and a special dance from the production. The children will have an opportunity to get to know the characters and the artists who play them as they initially meet them as Hansel & Gretel but then take the children through some drama and acting activities experimenting through play.
Although the key focus of the activities is fun, key elements of the Australian Arts Curriculum will be covered including music, dance and drama.
Tickets are $15 per child – includes bento box morning tea by Cheeky Poke.
Workshop is suited to primary aged school children.
Numbers are strictly limited to ensure safe social distancing is maintained throughout the workshop. Parental supervision is required and limited to 1 adult per attending child.
