Mother’s Day Paper Flowers
  • Coloured Card/Paper
  • Tissue Paper
  • Patty Cake Papers
  • Scissors
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • PVA Glue
  • Pencil
  • Tape
  • Pom Poms (optional)
Step 1

Take two larger patty cake papers, fold 1 of them inside out. If you have smaller patty cake papers do the same with 2 small ones.

Step 2

Fold the inside out patty cake papers in half, then trip the edge off in either a straight line, or bumpy line. Test out how the cut patty cake fits inside the normal paper of the same size. You may need to trim more off the paper to see each layer.

Step 3

Glue all the layers together, and add a pom pom, or a cut circle of paper in the centre of your patty cake flower. Make some more of these flowers.

Step 4

Next, for the coloured card flowers. Draw 2 x flowers with 4 petals on each of a similar size. Draw 2 x flowers with 4 petals on tissue paper at a slightly smaller size to the card flowers.

Step 5

Cut all the flowers out from the card and tissue paper. Use a pencil to gently curl the end of each petal upwards.

Step 6

Glue your entire flower together with a card flower first, then a tissue paper flower, card flower, then tissue paper flower. To finish your flower off, cut a small circle of card from a contrasting colour. Feather cut the edges of the circle to add more detail to the flower.

Step 7

Another type of card flower is to cut a similar flower shape in different sizes on different coloured, or textured card. Curl each petal up with a pencil.

Step 8

Glue all the layers together. Add a feathered cut coloured circle to the centre of your finished flower.

Step 9

Make a few other varieties of flowers. Inventing your own flowers can be hours of fun. If you need inspiration for flower shapes, you could Google “paper flower templates” to help.

Step 10

Tape a pipe cleaner stem to the back of each of your flowers. Glue green card leaves onto your flowers if you wish.

Step 11

Tie your everlasting bunch of flowers together and give to Mum on Sunday the 10th of May. Happy Mother’s Day.
