Separate your piece of clay into two pieces, one small and one big. The smaller will be your cup handle, the bigger piece will be your cup. Put your small piece aside for now.
Roll your big piece of clay into a ball. Use your hand to press down on the clay while rotating it in a circular motion.
Create a “pinch pot” with your clay ball. Push your thumb into the middle of the ball and use your fingers to gently pinch out the clay until it is in a cup-like shape you are happy with. Put your cup aside for now.
Now grab your small piece of clay. Roll this out into a thick worm shape.
With your toothpick, scratch each end of your worm and dab a little bit of water on each end. This will help you attach it to your cup.
Carefully attach the handle to the cup to create a handle! (Children may need assistance with this step!) Press the handle ends onto the cup edge well and gently smooth some of the handle clay onto the cup to make sure you have a good join.
If you’re using acrylic paint, you can go ahead and paint the outside of your cup. Be gentle!
Carefully decorate your cup with whatever materials you have. We have used beads and done a simple decoration around the top of the cup.
Leave your beautiful cup to dry for approximately 24 hours!
* if you wanted you could also make a plate. Either by pressing a piece of clay onto a small plate you already have or use your hands and make something unique!
