- Two sticks
- Coloured wool
- Pipe cleaner
Collect two small sticks from the garden. Place them on a table crisscrossing in the middle. Choose a bright colour of wool for the middle section of your butterfly.
You will start with a cross when wrapping the wool around the sticks, wrapping across the middle of the sticks and then around once on every stick. Repeat this moving around each stick to form a woven pattern.
Once you have reached about a ¼ of the way up the sticks change colour by cutting the wool and tying another colour to it.
Once you reach the end of the two sticks tie it off and do the same on the other side but tie the wool directly to the stick.
To make the body of the butterfly bend the pipe cleaner in half and bead, then place the butterfly wings in between the beaded pipe cleaner, twist at either side to secure the pipe cleaner to the wings.
Curl the pipe cleaner ends to form the butterflies feelers. Now you should have a beautiful butterfly. If you enjoyed making your butterfly why not make a few and make a mobile.
